The piece takes the cultural reference yam in both the figurative and symbolic sense in order to emphasise cross cultural diversity.
The work adopts a humours sense of ‘ethnic insiderism’- a sort of inside joke and understanding amongst those in tune with this cultural artefact, whilst contrasting with those unaware of its nature.
The piece is complimented by a factual anecdote about the vegetable, using both language and imagery to describe it.
The piece includes a montage of yam prints, sculpture, filmed footage and photography.
